Sonata Form
By: Bryan Rye
A voice of red gold and verdant charm,
from stately majesty of uplifted maple.
Exposed and alone, first upon the scene.
Notes that intertwine, overlap, rise,
and blend through phrases and transitions.
A display of alternating tumbles and lilts.
A reply, maturing the first, asserting brazen presence,
vying for attention and dominance.
Leaves of fire, bright in harmonic flirtation.
Deepening textures, threading between challenge
and compliment, daring the first to respond.
In the waters of reflection, under the eyes
of the mountains’ pleasure.
Where season has no meaning and shape
is the fluidity of musical color.
Two voices elide,
a coda, more brilliant than either alone.
