Join us for an immersive one or two-day pastel workshop in the captivating studio of Marlene Rye. Let's explore the mesmerizing world of trees, vistas, water, and skies! Each day will be brimming with opportunities, including a minimum of two demos and ample time to delve into each subject. Every student will receive a generous large sheet of Sennelier Pastel paper, allowing for the creation of four stunning 8.5"x11" drawings. Additional paper will also be available for purchase. Students will have the opportunity to experiment with various pastel brands, as Marlene has an extensive collection including Blue Earth, Mount Vision, Terry Ludwig, Richeson, Gordon Begin, etc. With thousands of pastels at your fingertips, there is no bounds for your creativity. Other papers will also be available for students to experiment with.

The workshop wil run from 9-3 each day with a break for lunch. Participants can either go out for lunch, or place an order in the morning for sandwiches from Woodstar Cafe in Northampton.

The workshops will take place in Marlene’s studio at 1889 Northampton, St., Holyoke, MA 01040.

I was someone who had no experience or vision of myself as capable of “making art“!  As a new retiree, I was lucky to find Marlene Rye’s positive energy and sense of adventure invite me into her studio and zoom art space! My intro to making art started with Marlene discussing the various choices of paper surfaces and numerous pastel brands.  I had no familiarity with the medium, but her guidance quickly got me started towards  recognizing my own comfort with pastel materials. Marlene encourages each student to  enjoy developing their own style of creating pastel art.
